Linear Access Control Installation: The Roswell Owner’s Guide

Linear access control installation in Roswell typically runs $1,200-$2,800 for a complete keypad or card-reader system, depending on whether we’re pulling wire through an existing conduit or trenching new low-voltage cable across the driveway. Most Linear AC-3, AE-100, and ACP00952 board replacements are completed same-day when the part is in stock. We keep the full Linear residential keypad lineup, the 2500-053 master control board, and the 2500-333 proximity reader on the van for Roswell calls, so we’re not ordering parts after we arrive.

Most Roswell homeowners realize their Linear access control has failed when the gate stops responding to keypad entry but still works with the remote, or when visitors punch in a code and hear a click at the board with no gate movement. That click without motion usually means the Linear control board is sending signal but the relay isn’t holding voltage under load. In older Roswell subdivisions near the historic district, we also see corrosion on the 2500-053 terminal blocks from years of humidity cycling through unsealed enclosures.

Which Linear Models This Applies To

Linear access control breaks down into three series we regularly service in Roswell: the entry-level AC-3 and AC-4 standalone keypads, the mid-grade AE-100 and AE-500 telephone entry systems, and the ACP00952 control boards that serve as the brain for most Linear gate operators from 2008 onward. The AC-3 uses a three-wire power-and-signal configuration; the AE-100 adds two-way voice communication and requires a separate 16VAC transformer that many original installers undersized.

To identify your exact part, open the enclosure and photograph the white Linear label on the board itself, not the keypad face. The part number format is always 2500-XXX for boards and ACPXXXXX for full assemblies. The AE-100 faceplate will read “AE-100” in the upper right corner, but the internal board may be a 2500-053 rev. C or D, and those revisions are not interchangeable. Rev. D added surge protection that Roswell’s afternoon thunderstorms make worth the upgrade.

We install OEM Linear parts and select aftermarket equivalents from Security Brands that match the original spec sheets. For the AC-3 keypad, the aftermarket housing fits but the membrane buttons weather differently in Georgia sun. We quote both options and let the owner decide.

Signs Your Linear Access Control Installation Is Failing

Signs Your Linear Access Control Installation Is Failing
  • Keypad accepts code but gate doesn’t move. The Linear board relay is chattering or failing to hold. We test this with a multimeter at the COM and NO terminals; if voltage drops below 22VDC under load, the relay contacts are carboned up. In Roswell, we see this most often on systems installed 2012-2016 when Linear used a supplier batch with undersized contact ratings.
  • Intermittent response, worse after rain. Water intrusion at the keypad cable gland or enclosure base. The AE-100’s bottom-mounted conduit knockout is the entry point. We reseal with dielectric grease and upgrade to a NEMA 3R enclosure if the existing box has been compromised by landscaping spray or sprinkler overspray.
  • Keypad backlight works, no tone or click. The 2500-053 board has lost its 12VDC output to the keypad head. This is usually a failed switching regulator, not a fuse. We carry the regulator IC on the van for field replacement, though most Roswell customers opt for full board replacement to avoid a second call.
  • Proximity reader flashes red on valid cards. The 2500-333 reader coil is reading the card but the Wiegand output isn’t reaching the board. We see this where the original installer used CAT5 instead of shielded 22-gauge, and Roswell’s clay soil shifts the conduit enough to fracture conductors over time.
  • System works until afternoon, then fails until morning. Thermal shutdown of the Linear power supply. The AE-500’s transformer runs hot in unshaded enclosures, and Roswell’s July-August heat index pushes ambient enclosure temperature past the 140°F rating. We relocate transformers to shaded positions or add ventilation on about forty percent of these calls.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Service Typical Range in Roswell
Linear AC-3/AC-4 keypad replacement (existing wiring intact) $380-$620
Linear AE-100 board replacement, reprogram codes $890-$1,340
Linear ACP00952 control board, full install & testing $1,200-$1,850
New low-voltage trench and conduit, per foot $8-$14
Upgrade to NEMA 3R enclosure $180-$260

The range depends on three things: whether we’re reusing existing conduit or running new, how many user codes need reprogramming, and whether the original installer left any documentation. We quote the full installed price in writing before work starts, under Haven Standard Clause 1. That price includes the part, labor, testing of all entry codes and exit loops, and the documented photo record we leave with you. The 365-Day Done Right Promise covers the installation and the part.

We don’t charge separately for “diagnostics” on a known failed part. If we arrive and the issue is something simpler, like a disconnected keypad ribbon cable, we reconnect it, test thoroughly, and invoice only for the service call.

DIY or Call Us?

There’s safe owner-level troubleshooting and there’s work that belongs to someone who understands low-voltage gate safety circuits. You can check: whether the keypad has visible physical damage, whether the enclosure gasket is intact, and whether the breaker feeding the transformer has tripped. Photograph the wiring before you touch anything, and never probe live terminals with a metal screwdriver.

What goes wrong with DIY Linear access control work: crossing the 24VAC transformer output with the low-voltage DC signal path, which destroys the 2500-053 processor. Stripping Wiegand data wires too short, causing intermittent card reads that waste hours to diagnose. And failing to bond the enclosure ground, which leaves the system vulnerable to the surge damage we see after every Roswell thunderstorm.

We’re not affiliated with Linear Corporation. We’re an independent service provider that stocks their parts because they’re common in this market and we know their failure patterns. If you’re staring at a dead keypad and wondering whether to order a part yourself or have us handle it, call (706) 928-9815. We’ll walk through the symptoms by phone and tell you honestly if this is a same-day fix or a full system evaluation.
